The piece depicts a pair of languishing cats in a riotous landscape of blossoming flowers and was created by Hartman in the 1930s. The lithograph image measures 6 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches, sheet size is 9 1/4 x 13 inches, it is hand signed in pencil at the lower right and numbered for an edition of fifty in the lower left by the artist. It is printed in black ink on cream wove paper. Paper shows mild and even age toning, minor surface grime, a little tape residue on the reverse top edge and some losses to the lower right corner. Otherwise it in excellent condition and will frame up beautifully.

She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League of New York. From 1919, Hartman lived in Woodstock, New York, and was an early and longstanding member of the Woodstock Artists Association. The denizens of Woodstock's natural setting inspired her to create outstanding wildlife and cat lithographs, a writer for The New Yorker Magazine observed that her depictions of animals were animated by a gentle mysticism. Hartman was awarded a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in both 1934 and 1938 to study graphic arts in Europe, primarily in Paris.

She also received awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the National Intitute of Arts and Letters. Hartman exhibited widely and examples of her work are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art; the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Baltimore Museum of Art; and the Art Museum of St. This item is in the category "Art\Art Prints".
